“It’s so green,” goes a line in a musical, “when Spain’s flowers bloom.” In Murnau, you don’t have to look far for greenery. You’ll find it in the Murnau Moor, in meadows and forests, in our parks – often, a glance out the window is all it takes. How the cultural organizers interpret this year’s motto, “green,” is entirely up to them. Thus, “green” can also represent something new: new ideas emerging, new experiments, new perspectives. And that’s precisely what the Murnau Culture Week stands for.
The Historical Society , for example, is looking at the region from above: aerial photographer and publishing director Dr. Jörg Bodenbender states in a lecture that the Blue Land is “finally green”.
You can experience spring and the sprouting of new greenery firsthand with a walk on May 1st. The Murnau Park Landscape Association – participating in the Culture Week for the first time – invites you to a stroll through the legendary Seidlpark.
Did the writer Ödön von Horváth, who lived in Murnau for many years and enjoyed his time there, and his contemporary Marieluise Fleißer get along well? They certainly didn't know each other personally during their lifetimes. But that will now be remedied during Murnau's Culture Week with a reading and musical performance. The literary event is being organized by the Murnau Ödön von Horváth Society in cooperation with the Marieluise Fleißer Society.
Visual artists find this theme equally easy or difficult to engage with. In three exhibitions, the many artists who currently live in the region demonstrate that 'green' is more than just envy.
And of course, this year's cultural week will once again be filled with music. The Staffelsee Choir is planning a program entitled "It's so green..." and the Murnau Chamber Orchestra will be exploring a green theme in their music.
Anyone wanting to experience the diversity of Murnau's cultural life will find plenty to enjoy during Culture Week. The best time to do so is at the opening on April 24th (free admission), where all participating artists will offer a preview of their program.
