Murnau as an artist location

The region's impressive nature and vibrant colors have always attracted artists and intellectuals to Murnau a. Staffelsee. The picturesque landscape and the changing bluish lighting moods inspired the world-famous artists around the “Blue Rider”. Even today, Murnau's art scene is still impressive: a large number of creative artists present their skills in various studios and galleries. Whether it's an art walk, a visit to a museum or a stroll through the art galleries - visitors experience our beautiful market town as inspiring and refreshing.

From the 19th century onward, numerous artists migrated to the countryside to find their artistic inspiration. With the artists of the " Blue Rider " group, especially Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky, Murnau is one of these artistic communities where an idea became reality. Even though the "Blue Rider" group had a particularly strong influence on Murnau, the artists currently based here have no reason to hide their talents. In the studios and galleries, you have the opportunity to discover treasures from both lesser-known and renowned local and international artists.
