When traditional folk music meets the unique landscape around Murnau, an extraordinary duet is created: On September 13, 2026, from 13 p.m. to 17 p.m., “Aufgspuit” will once again bring the Murnau moor to life with music.
The idea originated in 2007 during the Upper Bavarian Youth and Culture Days. Anita Staltmeier-Gruber, who is also taking on the musical direction this year, wanted to create a musical trail at the Ähndl. "That folk music would be the focus was a natural fit for our region," she explains. The event is now in its 19th year and has become well-known far beyond the Blue Land region.
For the musical director, a strong sense of belonging is an essential part of the concept: "This is my home, and I'm fortunate to live in this wonderful landscape," emphasizes Anita Staltmeier-Gruber. As a mountaineer and musician, she particularly enjoys combining her two passions. Performances will take place at three locations: at the oak tree near Lüss, at St. George's Chapel, and in the Ähndl beer garden.
When selecting the groups, her main goal is to represent as broad a spectrum as possible and to continually bring new musicians to Murnau. "This keeps the event vibrant and ensures that even regular attendees always have something new to discover," says Anita Staltmeier-Gruber. In 2026, the audience can once again expect a colorful mix of different folk music groups. From string music to dance music, the entire range of the regional musical landscape will be on display.
These music groups will be there in 2026:
Blusnknepf (Salzburg – Austria)
Harp duo Johanna and Magdalena (Bad Aibling)
Grasbach Musi (Seehausen)
Kranzberg Blos (Mittenwald)
Sagschneider Madl (Lenggries)
Schuahaufblosn (Riegsee)
Soatnwind (Seehausen)
Staffelsee Musicians (Murnau)
Striichmusig Dobler (Appenzell – Switzerland)
Sunnabankl Musi (Uffing)

A feast for all the senses
To complement the music, the Staffelsee innkeepers, the Gasthaus Ähndl, the Auszeit restaurant, the rural women's association of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district, and the Murnau traditional costume association will provide culinary accompaniment. Following the program, there will be an opportunity for free music-making at the Ähndl.
Should the weather not cooperate, no one has to miss out on the music: In this case, the event will be moved indoors to the Griesbräu, Karg Bräustüberl, Da Noi and Kaffeehaus Krönner.
Tickets cost €8 in advance and €10 on the day of the event. Advance tickets are available at the Murnau Tourist Information Office. Visitors are asked to use the designated parking areas.
