From Murnau to Penzberg

The crossing with the Staffelsee boat trip to Uffing sets the mood for a tour that is as exciting as it is relaxing. The path leads gently hilly through picture-book villages from Uffing to Riegsee, on the banks of which a short detour is tempting. We leave the bike behind for a short five-minute hike to the top of the Mesnerhaus chapel near Aidling: the view from there over the Blue Land to the Zugspitze massif is refreshment for the soul. We then go through a fairytale forest via Habach with its interesting collegiate church to the painter's village of Sindelsdorf. The painter's path, which our route follows for a few kilometers, shows why this became the cradle of the artist group "Der Blaue Reiter": for example, through the lush pastures near Oberriedern, where "the bright, shining horses" once inspired Franz Marc to create his world-famous animal paintings.

From Penzberg to Kochel

Everything is so picturesque here! The Penzberg Museum - Campendonk Collection attracts visitors with paintings by Heinrich Campendonk, the youngest "Blue Rider". And the path via St. Johannisrain and Schönmühl into the Loisachtal offers dream views of the landscape. After a breather in Bichl's baroque St. George's Church, one of the most beautiful village churches in Upper Bavaria, the Benediktbeuern monastery invites you to spend a longer period of time with its diverse offerings: we feel how spirituality meets cosmopolitanism here, contemplation meets pulsating life, protected nature meets broad diversified culture. So we cycle, strengthened in every respect, into the vastness and silence of the Loisach-Kochelsee moor, majestically framed by Jochberg, Herzogstand and Heimgarten. Relaxed, we reach Kochel am See, where the Franz Marc Museum inspires us, the Walchensee power plant amazes us - and the Alpine scenery is simply enchanting.

From Kochel to Murnau

Life comes into flow on this stage that connects Kochelsee and Staffelsee. We cross the Loisach twice in the few kilometers to the impressive Schlehdorf monastery. The Mission Dominican Sisters gave its historic walls a new future by handing it over to housing and agricultural cooperatives. We leisurely follow the Loisachdamm to Großweil, where a small natural outdoor swimming pool and the idyllic Glentleiten open-air museum with over 60 original buildings tempt you to stay. Via the Bavarian main and state stud farm Schwaiganger with its equestrian splendor and an inviting beer garden you reach the foot of the Heimgarten: Ohlstadt, famous for its bobsleigh athletes, offers an original flair and offers attractions such as the Kaulbachvilla. The Loisach again leads us back to the starting point on pretty paths on the edge of the Murnauer Moos. And internally we also feel "in flow" with the impressions and inspiration of this pilgrimage - full of new energies from nature and culture.
